Purpose:
Volunteer Drivers assist people living with HIV/AIDS with transportation to and from medical or other HIV-related appointments, and pick-up and deliver food donations within the Durham Region/Greater Toronto Area.
Duties:
Reporting to the Volunteer Coordinator, Volunteer Drivers:
- Drive clients to and from medical or related appointments.
- Ensure the total confidentiality of all communications with clients.
- May provide limited physical assistance in helping the clients in and out of the vehicle.
- Maintain a friendly and supportive atmosphere through the use of active listening skills.
- Pick up and deliver donations in the community.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Must have a valid Ontario G driver license.
- Must have Police Reference Check (annually) and a clean Driver's Abstract (both copies to be kept on file in office)
- Must be 21 years of age or older.
- Must provide a proof of Insurance (one million dollars liability coverage).
- Must provide a proof of ownership of vehicle.
- Must advise personal insurance company of volunteer activity.
- Must attend full general orientation at least once a year, as part of ongoing training.
- TB test completed and on file (annually).
- Sign a Confidentiality Agreement.
- Sign a Volunteer Agreement.
- Sign a waiver.
- Provide transportation with your own vehicle.
- On-the-job training with the supervisor.
WORK SCHEDULE & LOCATION:
Frequency of drives vary. Volunteer Drivers should be available on an on-call basis. Appointments are mostly during the day, within the Durham Region, occasionally to Toronto.
Minimum Commitment:
Twelve months
