  • POSITION:  Volunteer Driver

Purpose:

Volunteer Drivers assist people living with HIV/AIDS with transportation to and from medical or other HIV-related appointments, and pick-up and deliver food donations within the Durham Region/Greater Toronto Area. 

Duties:
Reporting to the Volunteer Coordinator, Volunteer Drivers:

  • Drive clients to and from medical or related appointments.
  • Ensure the total confidentiality of all communications with clients.
  • May provide limited physical assistance in helping the clients in and out of the vehicle.
  • Maintain a friendly and supportive atmosphere through the use of active listening skills.
  • Pick up and deliver donations in the community.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must have a valid Ontario G driver license.
  • Must have Police Reference Check (annually) and a clean Driver's Abstract (both copies to be kept on file in office)
  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • Must provide a proof of Insurance (one million dollars liability coverage).
  • Must provide a proof of ownership of vehicle.
  • Must advise personal insurance company of volunteer activity.
  • Must attend full general orientation at least once a year, as part of ongoing training.
  • TB test completed and on file (annually).
  • Sign a Confidentiality Agreement.
  • Sign a Volunteer Agreement.
  • Sign a waiver.
  • Provide transportation with your own vehicle.
  • On-the-job training with the supervisor.

WORK SCHEDULE & LOCATION:

Frequency of drives vary.  Volunteer Drivers should be available on an on-call basis. Appointments are mostly during the day, within the Durham Region, occasionally to Toronto.

Minimum Commitment:
Twelve months





  • POSITION: Bingo Assistant

    PURPOSE: To provide assistance at our afternoon (11:00 am to 3:00 pm) OR evening (5:00 pm to 10:00 pm) OR late night (9:30 pm to 12:30 am) Fundraising Charity Bingos.

    DESCRIPTION:
    Charity Bingo Volunteers report to the Bingo Coordinator and work as a team. The Bingo Volunteers are responsible for:

    -Selling bingo books
    -Doing prize pay-outs
    -Keeping the tables clean as well as cleaning up at the end of the Bingo Session.


    QUALIFICATIONS:

    -Friendly and personable
    -Service oriented
    -Possess good mathematical skills.

    TRAINING PROVIDED TO VOLUNTEERS WITH NO EXPERIENCE

    LOCATION: The AIDS Committee of Durham Region's Charity Bingos are at the Red Barn Bingo Hall at 172 Wayne Avenue in Oshawa. (Wayne Avenue is located one block south of Taunton Road and runs west from Simcoe Street).

    Minimum Commitment:

    Six months: at least one Bingo session per month

    OTHER Requirements:

    Current Police Check (annually)
    Sign a Confidentiality Agreement
    Sign a Volunteer Agreement
