TWINNING PROJECT

Twinning Philosophy

The AIDS Committee of Durham Region subscribes to the belief that the underlying and root causes of the global pandemic of HIV/AIDS are to be found in the ‘Social Determinants of Health’.

HIV is a virus that is spread to vulnerable populations by marginalization and lack of accessibility to the fundamentals of daily living; affecting the capacity of these populations to maintain healthy lives.

The AIDS Committee of Durham Region is committed to global enhancement of human health through ‘social justice’ and ‘civil society’. Therefore, we are committed to doing our share in fighting the global pandemic through the sharing of resources with undeveloped programs and regions; particularly through skills development in the areas of organizational and community development.

The AIDS Committee of Durham Region has been engaged in international work in Mexico for the last several years. We have now expanded our work support to COMUSIDA Puerto Vallarta.
The main objective of the Twinning Project is that COMUSIDA Puerto Vallarta increases its capacity to achieve their mission by building their ability to increase the scope, impact and efficiency of their development initiatives.

Some of the activities involved in the Twinning Project are:

  • Joint prevention campaigns
  • Workshops on organizational development
  • Workshops on community development
  • Exchange visits
  • Resource sharing
  • Development of new systems (e.g. financial, programmatic, planning)
